Creative writing adventures - Day 7

Write a short Q&A with a pure faun who does yoga on a floating mat

Today we bring you an enlightening interview with my good friend Florian Fauna who has started quite a revolution with his school of yoga called “GoatsNYoga - can you find your inner goat?”

Q: So Florian, please tell us what motivated you to come up with this new type of yoga
A: Good question Floatian - I was so inspired by the calming waters and soothing sounds, I felt like I should put my baaa-lance to the test. This builds my core and keeps me away from eating junk. If this can work for me, it will work for anyone!

Q: What equipment do you need us to bring?
A: As you know, we will be on the water so bring a good waterproof and pixie dust reinforced yoga mat, wear a wet suit and get some extra bug repellent to keep away the firebugs.

Q: How does one know they have mastered the technique?
A: We have very stringent testing at GoatsNYoga where we test for your core strength - you stand on one leg without toppling in to the water. We also test all students for their goat likeness such as being nimble on their feet, able to eat anything they find and sleeping in the open.

Q: How will you reward your students once they pass your tests?
A: Get ready to be dazzled Floatian. Each student will get their own - you guessed it, a pure faun they can take home. Also, our grand sweepstakes prize is a meeting with mahayogi Percy Jacksananda who will share a meal and his infinite wisdom with the winners.

Thanks for your time today Folorian and well, there you have it folks - get ready to go-ooooat yoga!!

Creative writing adventures - Day 6

Write a brief character sketch about a courageous nymph who brews a love potion

In a time when the world needed love and kindness, when the evil emperor Niley Morgasbord ruled over all the lands with a cold ironclad heart, there were hushed whispers among the good citizens about a rebellion forming.

At the heart of it was their brave and courageous leader Nymphosortica Newnymphus who knew the only way to break the emotionless heart of the king was to brew a potion that would make him a kind ruler.

Even with the monumental effort needed, Sortica as she was known to her band of ruffians, was always an optimist who believed in love and its magical effects. So Sortica, being of the fairy kind, started making pixie dust concoctions, each pixie dust carefully brewed for a certain trait she wanted in the king. When she was fully satisfied that the pixie dust blend was juuuust right, she got on her horse Ser Gallivant and rode like the wind to the castle. She put a charm on herself so she would be invisible and got into the king’s chambers. Once inside, she put little diffusers all around with the pixie dust mixture so Morgasbord would inhale them constantly and within a day or two, experience a major change of heart.

Sortica’s magic worked like a charm and in no time the entire kingdom noticed that their king was the kindest ruler ever. What does Sortica do now you ask? Well, she has all the time now to chase after the unicorns teaching them how to French braid their hair!

Creative writing adventures - Day 5

Write an email to a noble baron who flies on a magic carpet

Dear Sir,
I am writing to you today since I heard that you will be passing by our city this week on your way to see the Taj Mahal. Let me tell you about the amazing offer we have right now on fixin’s, trinkets and accessories to make your ride luxurious and comfortable.

Our wind chimes are made of the finest dragon glass or obsidian - you will truly hear the sound of music as they produce their dulcet notes.

We have a wide array of leather and bejeweled seats, beds and comforters that are stuffed with the finest down feathers, promising a great night’s sleep on your long journey.

For just a small additional cost, we also have a do it all appliance that can create a recipe, assemble the ingredients, cook and hand a delicious dish on a platter all at the push of a button at your command. It’s a very small price to pay for what you can do with it. Bonus - it can also do laundry and fold clothes hands free!

Last but not least, we also have a robot that can be a language interpreter on demand. His name is LID and he is standing by to help you understand the local language - in this case Hindi and other Indian languages. LID is the master of 32 million languages from all across the galaxy.

As you soar across the sky over our city, please look for the sign that says “We make your wishes come true” and set your carpet down on the roof - we offer free parking for the first two hours. Remember to get a pina colada from the self serve station on your way into the store.

Hope to see you soon! Your magic carpet ride team awaits your wish.

Creative writing adventures - Day 4

Write an email to a fiery goblin who lives in a castle tower

Hiya doing Ms.McNoodle McLauren,
I am writing to see if you would be interested in getting some home insurance and possibly consider investing in some safety equipment as well. I have heard that your “she-shed” is your pride and joy. I also love that you are an art lover, having collected paintings worth several bags of Irish gold.

Given that you love valuable and beautiful things, it only makes sense that you should protect them given your uhmm - combustibility!

We can offer you a fabulous package that will include unlimited access to fire resistant foam, that can be turned on with the switch of a button right on your castle wall. It comes in fun flavors like cherry, bubble gum and is perfectly safe to play in after the fire is put out. It will magically disappear once you are done playing. We can also offer you sand bags that can sprinkle sand confetti that will both do their job and be great to build mini castles with - ha ha ha.

Don’t hesitate to contact us at your earliest convenience so that we can get right to work protecting your assets and get you to start having fun in those melting moments!

Creative writing adventures - Day 3

Write 5 questions you would like to ask a babbling, talking dolphin who has never seen the sun

Hi Loosey Goosey,
I heard about your very interesting living situation and since you can talk, here are some questions for you!

What is it like living in a world where you have never seen the sun in terms of how you tell whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner time?

How do you see your family and friends? Does each of you have a unique talking voice?

Do you run into each other all the time in the dark or are there some self luminous underwater creatures that help see around you?

Is it very difficult to avoid predators that may want to eat you or because the sun’s light doesn’t reach where you live, is it easier to avoid them?

What do you do for entertainment? Clearly you can’t play toss the ball around ha ha since it’s dark. Do you have glow in the dark activities and parties?

Seems like a very different world than us land dwelling creatures since the sun is so vital to all that we do on a daily basis. I cannot wait to hear about your life without the sun.

Creative writing adventures - Day 2

Write a letter to an Arctic gorilla who collects stamps

To
Gorgonzola Gordilla
Zero degree road
Arctic Circle 60010

Dear G,
We have been pen pals for so long that I am running out of interesting stamps to attach on my mail. I always try to find unique and special stamps for you ever since you told me that you collect them. Did you know the name for collecting stamps? It’s called Philately.

Anyway, when I went into the post office to find a cool stamp today, guess what I found! An entire collection of stamps about festivals of the world.

I am not sure what you celebrate at the Arctic region but in the USA, there are several cultures and festivals to celebrate like Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Navarathri, Easter etc. Regardless of the religion, all festivals are meant to bring family and friends together, share food, laughter and spend time.

In our family, we bake a lot especially around Thanksgiving and my son enjoys helping make the desserts. He enjoys eating them even more ha ha ha! When we share with friends, it always makes me feel nice to see them enjoy my creations.

So when you see my letter keep an eye on the stamp next time! I will give you a little more information about that particular festival. I hope you are celebrating something with your family and friends. Eat an extra banana or two, stay warm and write to me about how you celebrate!

Love,
V

Creative writing adventures - Day 1

During this interesting time we are all experiencing due to the corona virus outbreak where shelter in place is here for the foreseeable future, one of the best parts of my day is when my kid spins the wheel on http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/ and picks a theme for a creative writing piece. We both write for about 15-20 minutes and share our stories once done. Here are the ones I wrote so far.

List 5 characteristics of a brainy owl who is a tour guide in your neighborhood

Ollie is our fabulous guide who makes all our lives easy. She is the most knowledgeable, hardworking and friendly creature we barn owls can count on.

Having been born in this forest Treeland, which we all proudly call our home, she is a true local. Her family has lived here for generations and our tight knit community depends on each other on a daily basis.

Ollie is our guide to finding the best places to set up nests, hunt for food and get together. With her sharp eyesight and wits, she is able to scout out areas of the forest where we won’t be bothered by other predators and most importantly humans!

We can all find plentiful food, shelter and even gather as a community to play games and spend some time together.

Ollie truly makes a difference in our lives by being kind and generous with the amount of time she devotes to working with our community. When we all have enough food gathered, we can get through hard times when the snow blankets the earth and food is scarce. We love you Ollie!!!
