Art high?!!

When I started learning Chinese brush painting a few years ago, I could never have imagined that someday my art would actually sell and that people would be willing to pay money and take my art home. Well, guess what - at the latest art show going on at Chastain Arts Center, two of my paintings sold!!

The first time a painting of mine sold last summer, a few friends teased me saying someone must have got suckered into buying it. I had a good laugh too since I got such a kick out of the fact that someone bought what I made.

Fast forward to present day and two of my art works have been bought at this art show alone. I was on such a high today since I heard from my teacher that a second painting had sold. A friend of mine thinks that I am officially an "artist" as soon as my first painting sold. The way I look at it, I paint for the love of art and if someone buys it because they liked my work, thats just fabulous. In the meantime I will keep on learning and doing what I enjoy so much. For now though, I am grinning from ear to ear :-)

The power of commitment

While sorting through a stack of training material from classes I had taken ages ago, I found this poem which struck a chord in me for some reason. God's will and mortal effort need to come together to make any endevor successful but the first step is to commit oneself to the idea. When everything comes together, the efforts put in will definitely produce results. Made me think of how much we take for granted and let fate play the deciding hand.

Here goes the poem -

Until one is committed
there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness.

Concerning all acts of intiative (and creation)
there is one elementary truth
the ignorance of which kills countless ideas
and splendid plans

That the moment one definitely commits oneself
